Oh, what could have been!
Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Go back a year and reflect how different our country's fiscal situation might be if the president and Congress had only embraced and passed the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson Commission of December 2010.
We would have a year of getting our house in order and be on the road to correcting our deficit. The rating agencies would have a better forecast for us, there would be some certainty in the lives of U.S. citizens as to the future, and businesses would have a better idea of how to proceed with plans. Most of all, this ridiculous sideshow we have been witnessing (House vs. Senate and president) would be totally unnecessary.
What could have been if only the president had embraced a report created by his commission and led Congress to do the same.
