Interstate highways in the greater Richmond area were closed for several hours Saturday after two afternoon incidents led to lane closures.
Around 2:40 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation reported a vehicle fire on the eastbound side of Interstate 64 in Goochland County. All lanes were closed to allow fire equipment to work at the scene. The fire was extinguished and the scene mostly cleared, allowing one lane to be reopened by 5:40 p.m. The other lane remained closed.
About 4:42 p.m. on Interstate 95 in Prince George County, an accident led to all northbound lanes being closed. The highway was reopened by 5:34 p.m.
State police reported no injuries in either incident. Investigations into the causes are under way.
