Back home after the contentious health care reform vote, Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th, is holding two telephone town hall meetings this week to talk about the health-care changes.
Unlike last summer, when Perriello held 21 town-hall meetings on health care — more than any other member of Congress — in area schools, he’s opting for telephone meetings. The call-in format allows thousands of constituents to listen at once.
The free calls, the first this afternoon and the second on Wednesday are for 5th District constituents, who can dial in to ask questions about the new legislation.
Perriello will conduct today’s call from the Senior Center in Charlottesville, and will focus on seniors’ issues. He will alternate taking questions from seniors present in the room and seniors on the telephone. The second call will be more general.
Perriello’s a target in this year’s mid-term elections because he won by a slim majority. At least seven Republicans are seeking their party’s nomination to take him on.
