Gov. Bob McDonnell has endorsed Arizona Sen. John McCain, the former Republican presidential candidate, in his re-election bid.
McDonnell backed former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination until Thompson withdrew, and then McDonnell threw his support behind McCain.
McCain now faces a primary challenge to keep his senate seat from former Arizona congressman and radio talk show host J.D. Hayworth.
In endorsing McCain, McDonnell said he is “a leader of character, courage and principle, and I am proud to support him.”
“Over the last year, the American people have taken a firm stand for smaller government and new pro-growth policies to create the jobs we so desperately need. These are the principles that Senator McCain fights for every day, and we need him now more than ever in the United States Senate.”
Shouldn’t McDonnell worry about Virginia and not Arizona?
