James Towey is bringing new meaning to the phrase “running for office.“

The Democratic candidate for the 56th House of Delegates district will officially kick off his campaign the morning of May 29 by starting a three-day run from his home in northwest Henrico County to the town of Louisa.

The 56-mile route will take him through Short Pump in Henrico; Sabot, Crozier, Maidens, Goochland, and Sandy Hook in Goochland County; and Shelfar, Orchid, South Anna, Apple Grove, and Cuckoo in Louisa County. 

The run will end in the center of the Town of Louisa on May 31. 

If you’re scratching your head over why, exactly, the 37-year-old former director of the Virginia State Crime Commission would do this, he says:
“I want the citizens of Goochland, Henrico and Louisa to not only know but also to see how serious I am about bringing them energetic representation. If I am willing to run to see them, I will surely be willing to hop in the car and spend time with them when I become their delegate,” Towey said.

He is running against incumbent Del. William R. Janis, R-Henrico.

Towey said he wants to accomplish three goals with his run through the district:
—show “his commitment to energetic representation” of all district residents
—to focus attention on the childhood obesity/inactivity crisis
—during tough economic times, he wants “to EARN, rather than just ask for, political contributions by working hard for every single dollar in a ‘RUN FOR THE MONEY,‘ where James will get pledges of one dollar for every mile he runs.“
