Anti-tax rally today at Capitol

By: Olympia Meola
Published: March 08, 2010 7:33 AM

The anti-tax group Americans for Prosperity plans to rally at the State Capitol today against plans to tuck new fees into the state budget.

The group has targeted the Virginia Senate’s spending plan in particular, saying it is attempting to pass a budget with hundreds of millions in new taxes and fees. The rally is a culmination of AFP’s radio, direct mail and Internet ad campaign urging residents to contact state lawmakers about “eliminating hidden fees.”

The 30-second radio ad, which likens the state Senate to Enron and Bernie Madoff, was set to air in Hampton Roads, Richmond, Fredericksburg and Roanoke.

AFP will convene at 11 a.m. at the bell tower on the Capitol grounds. Several Republican legislators are lined up to speak.
