Fishing Richmond’s Kanawha Canal

I got a number of emails from fishermen interested in Sunday’s column on fishing the Kanawha Canal in Richmond. One from Dewayne Starling of Moseley I thought was particularly worth sharing. Here it is:

As I was finishing up the sports section on Sunday morning your article caught my eye.  My kids Robbie (11) and Mason (8) are big into fishing and have been for a few years. I’ve ridden my mountain bike past the canal by Maymont a 100 times but never thought about taking the boys to fish.  So after church I packed up my family and a neighbors family and made a day of it down on the Kanawha Canal. Attached is a picture if a 4-pound largemouth we caught (Robbie’s on the left and his buddy Sam is on the right). It was a great day.
Robbie ran the half marathon on Saturday and found a new special fishing hole on Sunday. Thanks’s for the article and helping make a great weekend!!
