Women’s basketball: Williams, Hicks honored by ACC

The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its eighth annual class of ACC Women’s Basketball Legends. These individuals will be honored at the 2012 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, set for Mar. 1-4 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Virginia will be represented by post player Siedah Williams (2004-07). Virginia Tech will be represented by guard/forward Sarah Hicks (1998-02).
Williams, a four-year letter-winner, served as U.Va.‘s team captain during her junior and senior seasons. She helped lead the Cavaliers to a four-year record of 73-54. Included therein: an NCAA Tournament bid in 2005 and bids to the WNIT in 2006 and 2007. Williams averaged 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds as a senior. She finished her career as a 1,000-point scorer (1,053).
Hicks, a fine perimeter shooter, graduated as a 1,000-point scorer (1,092) and sits in third place on the Hokies’ list of 3-pointers made (157). She averaged 10.7 points per game against teams ranked in the nation’s Top 20, including a career-high 28 points against 19th-ranked LSU in 2001. She helped lead Virginia Tech to an 85-41 record that included NCAA appearances in 1998 and 2001.
