Women’s basketball: RPI update
Vic Dorr
Feb 02, 2012

At the moment, only James Madison’s Dukes seem safe—truly safe—as candidates for at-large entrance into next month’s NCAA tournament. The Dukes (16-5, 7-3 CAA after Wednesday’s 57-55 victory at Old Dominion), are perched in 31st place in the most recent RPI survey assembled by RealTimeRPI.com. They should be fine if they take care of business from now until season’s end. Virginia is ranked 42nd—not bad, certainly, but hardly comfortable, either. One misstep could push the Cavaliers onto the downside of a very slippery slope. The same can be said for Richmond’s Spiders (48th).

Everyone not named JMU, U.Va., or Richmond seems to have only one alternative: win your conference tournament. Hampton sits in 75th place. VCU is ranked 109th and Liberty 144th.

James Madison seems safe as an at-large hopeful
