Villanova scored 28 points in the second quarter to blow open a close game and leads the Tribe 35-7 at the break in front of a sun-splashed Parents Weekend crowd at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg.
Two of the touchdowns came in a span of 49 seconds, the second following a fumble recovery at W&M’s 32-yard line. Aaron Ball dashed for a TD on the next play to put the Wildcats up 21-0.
W&M’s only score came on a 97-yard kickoff return by freshman Jonathan Grimes with :37 left in the opening half. That cut Villanova’s lead to 35-7.
Villanova QB Chris Whitney was 17 of 21 for 164 yards and three TDs in the first half, while W&M QB R.J. Archer, filling in for injured Jake Phillips, was only 8 of 18 for 75 yards.
