When Dinwiddie meets Phoebus for the Group AAA, Division 5 championship in Blacksburg on Saturday, expect the temperature to be around 40 degrees under cloudy skies for the noon kickoff. No snow is forecast but it’s going to be cold in Lane Stadium.
Up I-81 in Harrisonburg, where James Madison faces Villanova in an FCS quarterfinal playoff game, much the same conditions are expected. The high will peak around 40 and skies will be cloudy all day. Kickoff is at 3:30 and it will be colder before the game ends, probably dropping into the low 30s. Dress warmly.
The University of Richmond has the unenviable task of playing Appalachian State in another FCS quarterfinal in Boone, N.C., where the forecast calls for a high of 41 with cloudy skies for the noon kickoff.
Meanhile, in Tampa, Fla, where Virginia Tech and Boston College square off for the ACC championship and a berth in the Orange Bowl, Hokie fans will need sunscreen for a high in the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies. Kickoff is at 1.
