Weekend Sports Weather Update
John Packett
Nov 28, 2008

The two high school playoff games involving area schools on Saturday appear set for cool but rain-free conditions. In Dinwiddie, where the Generals entertain Liberty-Bealeton in the Group AAA, Division 5 semifinals, it should be in the low 50s for the 1 p.m. kickoff. Varina goes to Manassas for the Division 6 semifinal against Osbourn and temps are expected to be in the mid-40s for the 1:30 kickoff.

The big college game Saturday is in Blacksburg, where the noon kickoff between old rivals Virginia Tech and Virginia should enable the game to be completed before rain arrives later in the afternoon. Temperatures should be in the mid-40s. Bundle up.

The University of Richmond will encounter much the same weather forecast as Dinwiddie: cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 50s for the 1 p.m. kickoff of its first-round FCS playoff game vs. Eastern Kentucky.

In Harrisonburg, where James Madison plays host to Wofford in another FCS first-round playoff game,  temps should be around 50 degrees under cloudy skies for the 3 p.m. kickoff, with showers possibly arriving before the game ends.

On Sunday, when the Washington Redskins battle the New York Giants in a key NFC showdown at FedEx Stadium in D.C., the forecast is calling for a 50 percent chance of showers and temps in the low 40s. Not a pretty day to be in the stands.
