VCU beats Western Michigan 79-62

    Virginia Commonwealth built a 19-point lead with 9 minutes left, weathered a big Western Michigan comeback and went on to a 79-62 victory at the Siegel Center.
    VCU (4-3) went ahead 61-42 on Eric Maynor’s free throw. By the 5:11 mark, the Broncos had cut the lead to 63-57. The Rams restored the margin behind Maynor, who finished with 29 points and eight assists.
    Joey Rodriguez had 17 points for VCU. Kirill Pishchalnikov had a career-high 15 points and 14 rebounds. David Kool had 22 points for Western Michigan (2-6).
