RICHMOND, Va. - With four new starters along its offensive line, the University of Richmond may experience some difficulty in pass protection Saturday at the University of Virginia.
Latrell Scott recently suggested that was one factor in Aaron Corp, the University of Southern California, winning the August quarterback competition with John Laub.
“Aaron’s a very mobile quarterback, and he gives us the threat to be able to get away and do some things with his feet as well, so that was another thing that played into our decision,” said Scott, UR’s first-year coach.
Garrett Wilkins, a 5-9, 185-pound junior, will start at tailback for Richmond. The Spiders may use three other runners.
“If you’re going to want to be a team that can run the ball at times, you need a couple of tailbacks who can carry you,” Scott said. “We expect those guys to be physical in the run game, and help us protect in the passing game.”
Senior wide receiver Kevin Grayson, one of the CAA’s best during the last three seasons, has been bothered by a knee sprain, but Scott said on Wednesday he expects Grayson to play at Virginia.
“He’s been out there running around and we expect Kevin to be able to go on Saturday,” Scott said. “I think it will be a game-time decision, but myself and his teammates are expecting him to go.
“The biggest thing is, Kevin is expecting to go.”
