The University of Richmond plays at Duquesne on Saturday night at 7 (ESPNU), and we’ll see if a strange stat hold up.
Since joining the Atlantic 10 Conference for 2001-02, the Spiders haven’t lost to Duquesne (14-0).
Before joining the A-10, UR was 0-8 vs. Duquesne, which is located in downtown Pittsburgh.
Also, the Dukes will wear throwback red uniforms as a tribute to former Duquesne player Chuck Cooper. The former Duke was the first African-American to be drafted by an NBA team. The Dukes wore red uniforms during the late 1940s and early 1950s, when Cooper played. The Spiders, who usually wear red on the road, will wear white.
UR is 12-11, 3-5 in the A-10. Duquesne, coached for the sixth season by former Virginia Tech guard Ron Everhart, is 13-9, 4-4 in the A-10. The Dukes are 8-3 at home, and Richmond is 3-7 on the road. The Spiders will have to focus on maintaining possession. DU exerts constant defensive pressure, and its opponents have averaged 17.9 turnovers.
