Tourney on their minds

Do you think about it much?
“The tournament?“ asked Virginia Tech senior guard Jamon Gordon.
Yeah, the tournament. The NCAA tournament. The field of 65. An event Virginia Tech hasn’t taken part in since 1996.
Yes, yes they do think about it - a lot. Even Tech coach Seth Greenberg admitted as much. A self-described “neurotic,“ Greenberg and his players know they’re very close to their goal of being an NCAA team.
“We think about it all the time,“ Gordon said. “Coach thinks about it more than everybody. You have to think about it. We’ve never been there. It’s like waiting for Christmas, waking up early in the morning. If we keep winning, keep winning our home games, nobody can deny us going this year. We thought we were going to my sophomore year. Now we know we’ll go if we keep winning.“
Said senior guard Markus Sailes, “Everybody says take one day at a time. But a team that’s never been there and always dreamed about getting there? We see we’re so close. We think about it a lot. Each day we think about it more but you have to try and put it to the back burner and think about the game at hand.“
The best guess is the Hokies need to win three more games to clinch a bid. That would give them 10 in the ACC and 20 overall. Nine league wins may do it but the Hokies would rather not take the chance. They want to get to 10 - or more.
“I think we’re going to get there, too,“ Sailes said.
Said Gordon, “We have some quality wins and we’ve played a tough schedule. If we win the rest of our home games (there are three), I think we’ll get in.“
