Tim, not Keith; Hightower not Highsmith

LANDOVER, Md.—Funny story for you. Well, I think it’s funny, you might think it’s merely foolish or perhaps somewhat silly.
Anyway, the Cardinals have a running back, Tim Hightower, who played at the University of Richmond. I set out this week to do a story on him. I told my editors I was going to do a story on Keith Hightower.
Keith Hightower? Who is that, they wondered.
I wondered as well. Why was I calling Tim Hightower Keith Hightower?
I racked my brain, which didn’t take all that long. Finally, it came to me. Some years ago, VCU had a baseball player, a point guard, named Keith “Tiny” Highsmith. I covered VCU in those days, and that’s where I got the “Keith” from.
So on Wednesday, we’re on a conference call with CArdinals coach Ken Whisenhunt. And I ask him about Tim Highsmith.
“Who?“ Whisenhunt says.
Huh? I got the Tim right, what more does the guy expect from me? Here’s what confused Whisenhunt. The Cardinals have a linebacker whose name is Ali Highsmith. He’s also a rookie, although he’s from LSU.
I finally got the name right, Tim Hightower. Whisenhunt said some good things about him, and he moved on.
Tim Hightower. Tim Hightower. Tim Hightower. I’ve got to drill that into my brain.
Not much action on the field at the moment. Cardinals place-kicker Neil Rackers was out earlier, and he finished his warm-up session by dropping a kick through the uprights from about 53 yards out.
Redskins rookie punter Durant Brooks is out now. He’s under a bit of pressure. He needs to have a good day today. He’s punting from about the 45, and he’s getting nice elevation and turnover on his punts. They are falling into the end zone, which is fine for warmups, but in the game, he needs to drop those punts inside the 10.
Brooks held the snaps for the place kicks with no problem. He can’t afford to drop another of those either.
The Cardinals are out for their pre-game stretching. The Redskins quarterbacks are loosening up. Santana Moss is catching passes from Todd Collins while Jason Campbell loosens up.
Here come the Redskins defensive backs, greeted by cheers from the few fans who are in the stadium at the moment.
All right, see you back here soon. By the way, I file quarterly updates to InRICH.com. Hope to see you there as well.
