The “other” other tournament

At 15-15, Virginia looks to have next-to-no chance of landing an invitation to the 32-team NIT. But the new College Basketball Invitational, a 16-team tournament, remains a possibility for the Cavaliers. U.Va.‘s coaching staff likes the idea of more games for a team that is expected to return eight of its top 10 scorers in 2008-09, and school officials are looking into the logistics of playing in the CBI.
Don’t be surprised if Virginia ends up hosting Richmond in a CBI opening-round game Tuesday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
