BEIJING- Richmond’s Queen Harrison advanced to the second round of the Olympic 400-meter hurdles Sunday night.

Harrison, the Virginia Tech standout, finished fourth in her heat before about 85,000 people at the Bird’s Nest National Stadium.

The first three finishers in each of the four heats automatically advanced to the semifinals Monday night. But of those who finished fourth or lower in their heats, the four runners with the best times filled in the semifinal fields for Monday.

Harrison, with a time 55.96, was the fastest qualifier of the “lucky losers.“

The Hermitage High grad is the youngest runner in the field and on the U.S. track team. She’ll turn 20 next month.
