State teams to get together for hoops double-headers at Richmond Coliseum
John O'Connor
Aug 09, 2011

RICHMOND, Va. - A college basketball double-header involving state schools is expected to be held at the Richmond Coliseum in December of 2012 and December of 2013.

The University of Virginia and Old Dominion are expected to play, along with the University of Richmond and George Mason, in 2012. Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth, James Madison and Hampton are projected as participants in 2013.

The Governor’s office later today is expected to release information regarding a press conference to announce the double-headers.

Dolly Vogt, general manager of the Coliseum, confirmed that there will be a media conference held at the Coliseum Wednesday morning. She said the projected 2012 field of Virginia, ODU, UR and GMU “sounds correct, but I know they were going back and forth with the teams. But yes, that does sound correct.”

The event will not be a tournament, but a double-header: two games on one night, and no second round.
