Sprint Cup qualifying at Lowe’s Motor Speedway

Concord, N.C.—It’s raining at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, so it’s unlike that today’s Sprint Cup qualifying will be cancelled. If so, Jimmie Johnson will sit on the pole alongside Carl Edwards for Saturday nights’ Bank of America 500.
The Nationwide drivers were able to get in their practice round. However, Manchester High School graduate Denny Hamlin withdrew from the Nationwide race and will be replaced by Dave Blaney. Hamlin, who has nearly recovered completely from his crash at Talladega Superspeedway, is expected to race Saturday.
If qualifying is cancelled, Johnson will start up front because he leads in owner points. The rain would be a big blow for Brad Keselowski, who would have to qualify on time in the No. 25 Chevrolet.
