Spotted salamanders tonight?

I talked to James River Park manager Ralph White earlier, and he thinks tonight could be the night for Richmond’s famous G-rated orgy. That’s right, if the rain comes through the area as expected, the spotted salamanders of Pony Pasture Park, which spend 11 months of the year underground, could make their annual migration across Riverside Drive to a tiny pond to mate.
White said Riverside Drive will be blocked off. People who want to watch the spectacle unfold can park at the Pony Pasture parking lot and walk west along the river to where the gravel walkway ends. Around 11 or 12 p.m. should be the best time to go, White said, assuming the rain comes through.
