Spiders, beware of Vanderbilt’s Nigerian Nightmare, Festus Ezeli
John O'Connor
Mar 14, 2011

RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond basketball supporters probably don’t want to hear that their team in the first round of the NCAA tournament is facing a quality center with an unusual name.
Saint Mary’s post man Omar Samhan, 6-foot-11 and 265 pounds, hit UR with 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting and 12 rebounds during an 80-71 win over Richmond in a first-rounder last year in Providence, R.I.
On Thursday in this year’s first round in Denver, the Spiders (27-7) deal with Vanderbilt’s Festus Ezeli, a 6-foot-11, 255-pounder from Nigeria. Ezeli, a junior, averages 12.8 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Commodores (23-10).
