So it’s really hot in August in Virginia

OK, gang, a few quick things before I head out to Macado’s with Noted Washington Post Earl of Excess Adam Kilgore ...
Athletic trainer Chad Hyatt gave a quick injury update before practice ...
- Junior cornerback Brandon Flowers (right ankle sprain) will probably play in Saturday’s scrimmage, the first of the preseason.
- Freshman defensive back Mario Edwards (hamstring) is questionable.
- Junior defensive tackle Barry Booker (sprained toe on left foot, which was in a boot yesterday) is questionable.
- Senior whip Corey Gordon will probably play despite injuring his neck Monday after colliding with Nick Marshman. (It should be duly noted that if I collided with the 357-pound Marshman, I would turn to dust.)
- Sophomore guards Eric Davis and Richard Graham might not play because of hamstring injuries.
- Sophomore cornerback Victor “Macho” Harris (hamstring) is questionable.
- Hyatt said Ed Wang’s recovery time was never estimated at six to 10 weeks, despite the original press release stating as much. Hyatt said Wang will be out 10 to 12 weeks because he suffered ligament damage in addition to fracturing his fibula.

I chatted with Hyatt after practice for one of those stories that newspapers do every summer, the story about how it’s really hot in August in Virginia, and how it’s really important to drink water when it’s really hot. I was shocked—SHOCKED!—to learn that Hyatt doesn’t give the players IVs of Miller Lite before sending them out to practice.
All kidding aside, Hyatt did have lots of interesting things to say about how Tech’s trainers monitor players’ body temperatures. Check out tomorrow’s print edition for more.

OK, I’m out. There’s this tripe on TV—a show called “Terrapins Rising” that seems to be nothing more than a p.r. machine for Maryland’s program—that falls somewhere between E! News Daily and SportsCenter’s “Who’s Now?“ segment on the intellectually stimulating scale. So, obviously, Macado’s is calling.
