Second half: Hofstra vs. Towson
Michael Phillips
Mar 07, 2008

3:13,  Towson leads 60-50  Hofstra stifles its own run with an intentional foul. Towson starts running the shot clock on each possession, with the exception of one where the Tigers threw up an ill-advised three just seconds into the count. Agudio couldl still make this close with a couple threes, but his shooting touch has gone cold (like the Coliseum itself) in the past few minutes. It feels like a Renegades game in here.

7:06, Towson leads 54-48  So much for Towson spreading the fouls out. C.C. Williams and Tony Durant each pick up their fourth in a span of minutes.  Agudio finds his touch and makes this a ballgame. It appears that Towson coach Pat Kennedy is sending Williams back in after the timeout, it’s a competitive game now and he can’t risk it getting any closer.

Those of you thinking about leaving work early, there are plenty of good seats still available:

11:54, Towson leads 43-33 Towson is still sitting on three timeouts, and coach Pat Kennedy is using them liberally as Agudio finds his shooting touch. Since halftime, the Pride has outscored the Tigers 20-12, but its still a double-digit lead.

15:53, Towson leads 43-25 Key first-half stats: Nine points each for Towson’s Jonathan Pease and Josh Thornton. The Tigers have eight fouls, but only two players have picked up their second, so they’re spreading it around. For Hofstra, Antoine Agudio is 1 for 9, including 0 for 3 from behind the arc. If half of those shots fall, like they usually do, this is a different game.

A small handful of VCU fans now in the Towson section, requesting songs from the Towson band. They don’t know “Mr. Roboto,“ but oblige with an acapella version. One of the fans heckles with, “That was a horrible call, and I don’t even care about the game.“ This is followed by a scout arguing the merits of the call with him. We’re wondering why anybody would scout a team that has to play VCU tomorrow.

We’ll check with the officals and see if we can go to the running clock in the second half.
