Jared Green reacts to Groh’s firing
Michael Phillips
Nov 29, 2009

Jared Green just participated in a conference call with U.Va. reporters. His entire thoughts are below. Some quick hits:

Recruiting coordinator Bob Price and secondary coach Anthony Poindexter will be retained to help run the program while the search is conducted.

AD Craig Littlepage held a meeting today for the players, at which Groh was not present. Littlepage solicited input on what type of coach the players would like to see, and explained how the process would work.

Also, Al Groh kept an open office today for players wishing to come talk. At one point, the line snaked around into the concourse of the building from his door.

Come back at 7 p.m. for reaction from U.Va. players, updated live as they discuss Al Groh’s departure as head coach. Refresh for updated info.

Looks like the call has just one participant tonight, Jared Green. His thoughts:

The meeting (today’s team meeting) was needed. It was good because we got together as a family, and ... we all got to express our different feelings towards what was going on and where we’d like to move in the future.

Littlepage ran the meeting. Groh wasn’t there. Coach (Bob) Price is going to be doing some of the recruiting, and coach Dex (Anthony Poindexter) will stay(to help the transition).

One thing I will say is that players were able to voice their concerns and the criteria they would like to see in the process of picking a new coach. Just things we would benefit from a new head coach.

His (Groh’s) office was open, I guess it was an opportunity for some players to go into his office and chat with him. (There was a) line from Al’s office to concourse area. I guess players got to say whatever was on their heart.

I’ve only talked to receivers today outside of that meeting. Dontrelle, Kris and Matt Snyder. So yeah, we are a tight group. I’m tight with the receivers and I believe we’re going to be increasingly just a more and more polished group and contribute more and more next year.

We have to make sure we stay out of trouble during this time. It’s very important we take care of each other and stay out of harm’s way. The meeting was called real quickly. There were maybe 4 or 5 seniors there. Other guys, went out of town, had family in town. Some guys might have just not got the memo. They actually participated in voicing some concerns, so that was pretty cool.

This is going to be a time where we find out who the new leaders are on the team. Clearly there are going to be some voices that are heard across the team, and some guys who are like the shepherds for the sheep. So we’re excited to see who the leaders will be.

(end of call)

Bud Foster’s not leaving Va Tech after 20+ years for anywhere, much less the rival school. Use your brain, C.W.

The answer is Tommy Tuberville. The question is will UVa be willing to pay him what he’ll command? My bet is no, which means they’ll hire either a I-AA head coach (London) or an assistant.

A new coach for the Hoo’s! Look, lets just cut to the skinny on this new search for a coach!
1. Mike London
2. Mickey Matthews

The two above mentioned coaches are NOT, I repeat not Qualified for Big Time Football! London inherited his Championship Team! Wait until he recruits his own class and then we will be able to judge more fairly!
Matthews? The fact that he is tight as a tick with Sonny Randle ( and we all remember this loser)  is enough to run and hide! Although pretty successful at JMU, that does not and will not cut the mustard at UVA!

    BUD FOSTER!
Thats right! Bud Foster, The HOKIE, The guy who cleans our clock every year!
BUD FOSTER! BUD FOSTER! Yeah, BUD FOSTER!!
