Our last chance to see a well-known major-leaguer?

This is what I’ll miss if we don’t have a professional baseball team next season:
A large crowd. A buzz in the air. A two-time major-league all-star on the mound, trying to rediscover his magic.
Dontrelle Willis was so-so Friday night for the Toledo Mud Hens – certainly not the pitcher who won 22 games with the Florida Marlins in 2005 and became the National League Cy Young runner-up. But that’s not the point.
It was a chance to see a well-known major-leaguer, in whatever stage of his career, in our town.
Bret Saberhagen. Fernando Valenzuela. Bartolo Colon. Darryl Strawberry. They all played—as well as others I’m sure I’ve forgotten – at The Diamond.
With the Braves abandoning us for a get-with-the-times stadium in Gwinnett County, Ga., those opportunities will only present themselves if we get another team. And that opportunity will only present itself if we get another stadium.
Yeah, you can head up to Washington or Baltimore and drop some serious cash and see those players. But it’s not the same.
Let’s hope the D-Train wasn’t our last chance to hitch a ride.
