On the recruiting trail

CHARLOTTESVILLE—In the Class of 2008, Benedictine High junior Ed Davis is probably the No. 1 target of U.Va. men’s basketball coach Dave Leitao. But the Cavaliers also have Henry Sims high on their wish list, and they’ll have an opportunity to impress him this weekend.
Sims, a 6-10 center from Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore, is scheduled to take an unofficial visit to U.Va. with his family.
In 2006-07, Sims averaged 11.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and 1.6 steals and had 33 steals. He was named to The Baltimore Sun’s All-Metro first team, as was Mount St. Joseph forward Dino Gregory, a senior who’s headed to Maryland.
Maryland is among the schools in which Sims is most interested, along with U.Va. and Georgetown. He’s expected to pick a college before the start of the 2007-08 academic year.
In the Class of 2007, 6-8 power forward Patrick Patterson is the only player whom the Cavaliers are still recruiting. The NCAA’s spring signing period is under way, but Patterson, a McDonald’s All-American from Huntington, W.Va., is in no hurry to choose from among Florida, Virginia, Duke and Kentucky.
