Mornin’ from VMP

The sun is out, there’s a slight chill in the air and there was absolutely no traffic coming into Virginia Motorsports Park this morning. That’s the good news. The bad is that my normal morning routine of watching “Saved by the Bell” to start my day was cut short. I will overcome, however, as my daily dose of A.C. Slater will just be delayed a bit. And while A.C. is of no relation that I’m aware of to our Virginia Tech beat writer, Darryl Slater, he’s a fan as well.
Getting down to business…..I’m chasing down a few things today, and we’ll see how it all pans out. I do know I have a culinary date a little later with chef Nicky Morse, who makes Jeg Coughlin Jr. and his people very happy with delicious food while the crew is on the road. I promise a full report later. I’m also going to catch up with Gary Scelzi, who announced he will retire from the sport after this season. He’s said that in the past only to come back, and I’ll ask him if this year it’s for real. As I write, the sportsman classes are up and running. They haven’t yet asked me to take my Altima for a spin down the track, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. The pro classes begin at noon, and the final qualifying session will begin around 2:30.
Enjoy your day, everyone. Time to do some work!
