Mears’ car too low in postrace inspection

Feb 10, 2008
About 10 minutes after our deadline, NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said the No. 5 car of Casey Mears was found to be too low in postrace inspection. Mears had finished sixth in the Budweiser Shootout.
Hunter said it could have been from damage incurred in the race, and they would have more information on the findings tomorrow (well, later today now).
Stay tuned.
Also, in about 12 hours they will start front-row qualifying. We’ll see if Dale Earnhardt Jr. can follow up on tonight’s big win.
Side note: Earnhardt was great in his postrace press conference, and I’ll use one of his best quotes in my notebook for Monday. Make sure you check it out in the Times-Dispatch.
Until next time!
