Lack of urgency hurts Redskins defense
Michael Phillips
Dec 01, 2008

Defensive coordinator Greg Blache and head coach Jim Zorn both brought up the same point after the game - they felt like the team wasn’t playing with urgency, or somehow didn’t understand what was at stake during the game. Blache added that it means the Redskins are now dependent on other teams losing if they want to make the playoffs.

“We don’t want to rely on other people. That’s a welfare mentality,“ he said during the Comcast postgame show. “We want to define and cut our own road and our own position. I’m a little miffed we let this opportunity slide by.“

The defense’s plan was to make Eli Manning beat them, though Blache added that “we didn’t have to make it that easy for him.“ They were effective at shutting down the run early, but Manning had enough in his repertoire to beat them.

Blache added that he isn’t concerned about the Redskins’ 3-4 home record. “A win is a win, a loss is a loss,“ he said. “If you lose, you lose. I don’t care if it’s in Mexico, Czechoslovakia, wherever.“
