Keydets or Flames?

Just wondering. Is VMI the best men’s basketball team in the state? Or does that designation belong to Liberty University?
Yeah, you might think that’s silly. You might think me crazy. Or merely foolish.
But I wonder. Virginia is not playing well. The Cavaliers beat VMI, but barely. The game was in Charlottesville and the Keydets had just beaten Kentucky, at Kentucky, two nights earlier. They traveled to and from Kentucky by bus.
Liberty won at Virginia.
The Liberty at VMI game on Jan. 17 will be big for the Big South and state basketball.
I know. Virginia Tech is an ACC school. The Hokies play hard and have plenty of talent. At the moment, coming off their loss to Duke, the Hokies need to improve in several areas.
VCU has not had any impressive early-season victories and lost at Delaware. Richmond lost at VMI, to VCU at home and has yet to play the big-guys in the A-10.
It would be interesting to see all the state teams play in some kind of round-robin tournament. That’s never going to happen, if for no other reason, it would be impossible to schedule.
The thing about VMI is that they have a unique offensive attack. When they have players that fit that system, and they apparently do this season, they are difficult to prepare for and even harder to beat.
There’s plenty of the season left. We’ll see who’s standing at the end.
Who has the best men’s college basketball team in Virginia this season?
