Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is a man of deep religious faith, and he says he’ll rely on that now after learning his two-year-old grandson, Taylor Gibbs, has leukemia.
Gibbs has a Web site, joegibbsonline.com, that he has uses to deliver spiritual messages to anyone who visits the site. He delivered the news of his grandson’s illness on the Web site, news that he said, “devastated our whole family.” The family received the diagnosis two weeks ago, Gibbs said.
“So, as we struggle with this news with Taylor, we did get a good report this week,” Gibbs said on his Web site. “He’s had a number of surgeries, and he’s into his chemo now.”
Taylor Gibbs is the son of J.D. Gibbs, the older of Gibbs two sons. J.D. Gibbs runs Joe Gibbs Racing in Charlotte. Gibbs’ younger son Coy is a member of the Redskins coaching staff.
Gibbs had planned to offer visitors to his Web site a wrap up of the Redskins 5-11 record from the 2006 season. Instead, he said of Taylor’s illness, “This is much more important than winning football games.”
