Quarterback Rodney Landers passed for 163 yards and three touchdowns today, giving top-ranked JMU a 24-10 lead over No. 12 William and Mary at intermission of their Colonial Athletic Association showdown.
With skies clearing over Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, the Dukes were upholding their end of the shootout, but W&M was having trouble getting its offense untracked.
Landers was 9 of 13 passing, hitting wide receiver Marcus Turner with TD tosses of 50 and 34 yards. The senior’s other scoring pitch was 4 yards to tight end Mike Caussin. Landers also had 88 yards on the ground.
The Tribe managed only 125 yards of offense behind QB Jake Phillips, who was 7 of 13 for 107 yards and a TD pass. Tailback Jonathan Grimes, who caught a 16-yard scoring pass, had only 21 yards rushing on six carries.
W&M has been a second-half team most of the season, so we’ll see what happens in the final two quarters. A victory by JMU gives the Dukes at least a share of the CAA championship.
