JMU beats Richmond in thriller

Scotty McGee returned a punt 69 yards on the next-to-last play of the game to give JMU a 38-31 victory over the fifth-ranked Spiders today in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown before 16,151 at UR Stadium.
The Dukes (4-0, 6-1) had tied the game with :59 to go on an 8-yard TD run by Eugene Holloman and quarterback Rodney Landers’ two-point conversion pass to Griff Yancey, a former Hermitage High standout.
After JMU stopped the Spiders near midfield, Brian Radford punted to McGee, who cut to the right sideline and crossed the goal line with :01 left. Richmond fell to 2-2, 4-3.
