Hoops Day II

Overheard at the Alexander YMCA in Raleigh from one elderly woman to another yesterday morning: “I thought Duke was gonna get beat” (they’re pretty hardcore about their basketball around here). But Duke didn’t get beat—not even with Vince Gill rootin’ little Belmont on. In fact, no littles won on Thursday and none this side of Belmont got particularly close. George Mason, we hardly knew ye.
So what about today? Does any rank underdog have a shot at imploding your office pool drawsheets? I’m not what you’d call a big risk-taker, but I’ll be keeping my eyes on 13-seed San Diego vs. 4-seed UConn in Tampa. Be interesting to see, too, what 15-seed UMBC can do with second-seeded Georgetown in Raleigh. I’m not sayin’ either of those Big East heavies will fall heavily—just sayin’ those little ‘uns could make it interesting.
First up here in Raleigh is Davidson vs. Gonzaga. Wildcats guard Stephen Curry bears watching. Dell’s kid can fill it up.
