Hiking in Douthat State Park
Andy Thompson
Feb 28, 2008
In early December I set the challenge for myself of visiting one of Virginia’s state parks in each month of 2008. The goal was to camp at least one night and take advantage of no less than two of the activities each the park offers. The plan has been amended slightly because I didn’t realize at the time that you can’t camp at Va’s state parks until March 1st. Oops!
I didn’t camp, but still had a great time at mountain biking and hiking at Pocahontas SP in January. February’s state park will be Douthat, near Clifton Forge. I met a friend, David Sigler, who lives Lexington yesterday to do a little hiking at Douthat. I’m going back next week to try fly fishing in Wilson Creek, which was damned up to create the 50-acre Douthat Lake.
