Getting involved
Andy Thompson
Aug 27, 2008

After reading last Friday’s Outdoors column about citizen anglers involved in conservation work, loyal reader Randy Bishop sent this link: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/volunteer/

I didn’t realize the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries offered these opportunities. Thanks again, Randy.

The citizens might be more interested in volunteering for VDGIF projects if the VDGIF was still working for the benefit of the citizens. They have closed off half the access to the main lake at Amelia WMA in the summer and closed all shooting ranges in the summer and now they want people to volunteer to help out there. Why should we? Open the gates back up and keep the ranges open year-round like they used to be and people might be inclined to volunteer, otherwise it is just a waste of time.
