Fly fishing Buffalo Creek

I went fly fishing with friends Geoff Murphy and Tommy Morel today on the trophy section of Rockbridge County’s Buffalo Creek. The section is 2.9 miles long between the confluence of Colliers Creek and Buffalo and the confluence of the North and South Buffalo. We had a great time and caught a bunch of fish (at least Geoff did), though we didn’t see any of the big brown trout that are known to inhabit the spring-fed waters. I caught all rainbows, and Geoff mixed in a few browns.
What a day! Perfect weather (10 degrees cooler than Richmond). Mountains all around. This is one of my favorite areas in Virginia.

I need a change form bass fishing and your trout fishing looks like the ticket. From the flatlands of Florida to some mountains, I’m ready.

Great article. Ogilvie would be so proud if he knew you mentioned him in the article.

I don’t know, Cajun. Those guys at the beard world championships are seriously hirsute. But if you think you can hang with the best, feel free to send the Outdoors Blog a pic and I’ll have one of my dozens of staff writers put it up here for all the world to see.

Great story on Buffalo Creek, it is almost like I was there. By the way, I am the new front runner for the next beard national/world champion. Mark my words….PLUS I’m gettin my blog on.
