First Market Stadium keeps name, for now

Last week’s announcement that First Market Bank will merge with Union Bankshares of Caroline raises an obvious question regarding the University of Richmond: Will First Market Stadium, where an on-campus football facility is being built, get a new name?
The answer: no, at least not now.
UR Athletic Director Jim Miller said Saturday that the facility will be known as First Market Stadium until further notice and not add any designation that reflects the merger. But there is a possibility that at the time the stadium opens for football in 2010, there will be a new name for it.
The playing surface - Dickinson Field - was named in 2007 for the late V. Earl Dickinson (Class of 1948) by his son, V. Earl Dickinson Jr. (Class of 1975), who made a $2 million gift to UR.
