What did we see on Friday? (Well, officially, I didn’t see anything as I was stuck in the office) 
For one, the cooling weather (and therefore track) led to some impressive speeds. Here’s what Mike Neff, a rookie in the Funny Car class, had to say.
“This is fantastic. That was bitchin’. I mean, conditions are great here.” 
Indeed.
Neff’s time (4.041 seconds) is the fastest Funny Car time recorded since the Nitro classes shortened races to 1,000 feet in the name of safety in the wake of Scott Kalitta’s death at Englishtown, N.J. Two other drivers — Ashley Force (4.048) and Tony Pedregon (4.049) also joined the 4.04 club.
