Curtis Grant and Hermitage—What to expect in 2010
Eric Kolenich
Aug 31, 2010

With out a doubt, the biggest recruiting story of the year is Curtis Grant. He’s Hermitage’s 6-3, 230-pound middle linebacker and one of the most recruited players ever from the Richmond area.

He has 27 offers, including Alabama, Florida, Miami, Virginia Tech, Virginia, West Virginia and many others. His decision isn’t expected any time soon. Grant said that he wants to focus on his senior season, so he won’t start really narrowing down his choices until after the season. And if Hermitage makes it all the way to the state playoffs, that might not be for awhile.

It’s possible that Grant will make his announcement on signing day. If he does, then it’s possible that ESPN could be there to cover his announcement. It depends on who the country’s top uncommitted players are by the time signing day rolls around. If every player ranked above Grant (Rivals has him ninth in the country) makes his decision before signing day and Grant doesn’t, that’s when we could see this story get national attention.

But don’t expect lots of glitter and glamour to Grant’s announcement. His coach at Hermitage, Patrick Kane, says Grant isn’t the type of player to disrespect other schools in making his announcement. His decision won’t become one of those YouTube sensations where the players puts on the hat of one school, only to take it off, throw it to the ground, and put on another.

As mentioned above, Hermitage has a chance to go to the state playoffs this year. That’s because the squad is loaded with talent. The Panthers could have three players besides Grant to go to a Division I school.

Diamonte Bailey, 6-4, 255, DE, has already committed to Virginia.

Brendon Riddick, 6-1, 196, QB, has offers from Monmouth and Norfolk State

Justin Gist, 5-9, 170, CB, has an offer from Monmouth
