Cats, the sequel
Bob Lipper
Mar 27, 2008

Down here in Charlotte, the big deal is North Carolina and its favored-sons status at the East Region.  Twenty miles north in sleepy Davidson, another Sweet 16 entry has everyone buzzing.  That would be those Davidson Wildcats, who took Raleigh by storm last weekend and are now in Detroit for the Midwest Region.  How ga-ga is everyone about the Cats?  This ga-ga: The school’s board of trustees has offered to spring for tickets, transportation (an 11-hour bus ride) and hotel (two to a room) for any Davidson student who wants to attend tonight’s game against Wisconsin and—if the Cats win—Sunday’s final.  Today’s classes have not been canceled ("This offer is not intended to encourage students to miss classes,” President Tom Ross wrote in an e-mail to Davidson’s 1,700 students).  But hey, how much of a tug does even a Davidson brainiac need to blow off Psychology 101?  Anyhow, the buses leave this morning at 6 and begin the return trip from Detroit on Sunday afternoon following the region final.  The idea is to get back to Davidson between 4 and 6 Monday morning.  In time for classes, in other words.
