Catfishing on the James

I love this picture.
Captain Mike Ostrander (a.k.a. Ahab) of the James River Fishing School sent it in a week or so ago. It’s of three guys he took out for blue cats recently.
Curtis Spain is on the left with a 28-pound blue cat. In the middle is Chris Spain with a 40-pounder, and Mike Green is on the right with a 30-pounder. Ostrander said they hauled in six citations on the day. The biggest one caught was by Curtis at 45 pounds. All told, they caught 12 fish for a total of 326pounds.
And if you liked that picture, you’ll love this video...

I have seen Blue Cats in the James River and I knew it had some big ones. However, as big as these are in this photo… I bet there has to be some that are twice that size. They are fun to catch and these 3 guys did a great job. I have seen some huge ones around Boshers Damn on the Chestefield side. I hope they go fishing there soon when the water is down.
Great job guys.... what did you use for bait and tackle?
