With the final week of the regular season upon us, the top-ranked Dukes will be seeking the No. 1 seed in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs when they travel to Towson, Md. A victory over the Tigers would not only give JMU the top seed (and home field for the first three rounds) but a 10-win regular season for the first time in school history.
Unless quarterback Rodney Landers stumbles and breaks his leg getting off the team bus, the Dukes should have no trouble dispatching lowly Towson, which has mustered only three wins all season.
The biggest conference game of the weekend is in Williamsburg, where No. 7 Richmond and No. 16 William and Mary will meet in a battle of old rivals that will likely determine which school goes to the playoffs and which one stays home. UR is also looking for its fourth straight victory over the Tribe and appears to have a little too much offense for its opponent.
Not far behind UR-W&M in importance is No. 11 New Hampshire at No. 17 Maine. The Wildcats might be able to sneak into the playoffs with a loss because of their win over FBS member Army, but the Black Bears have to win to qualify.
The only other game of significance finds No. 6 Villanova at arch-rival Delaware for a game the Wildcats probably don’t have to win to make the playoffs but could mean home field for the first round if they do.
