BREAKING NEWS: Virginia Tech is in the tournament

Jerry Palm, the fine gentleman who runs collegerpi.com, has Virginia Tech as the last team in his projected bracket. Problem is, Palm doesn’t get a vote. I think we can all agree that if the Hokies upset North Carolina today, they absolutely are in the tournament.
A few other items before we wind back around to the tournament ...
- This is the 25th consecutive ACC tournament for Daily Press columnist David Teel. I quizzed him earlier about his favorite ACC tournament moment. He didn’t hesitate. Randolph Childress in 1995. He led Wake Forest to the title by scoring 40, 30 and 37 points. “It was the best three days of basketball by one person you’ve ever witnessed,“ Teel said. Or as Washington Times research hound Patrick Stevens is on record as saying: “He was a god that weekend.“ I think he means Childress, not Teel, but I’m not exactly sure.
- Quick side note about the Yankees’ visit to Virginia Tech on Tuesday: Matt Kovatch of Tech’s sports information department said the school has issued 95 media credentials. Apprently, Derek Jeter mentioned a couple times on a conference call a few days ago that he was cool with coming, as long as he didn’t get hit by a pitch. That’s a legitimate worry. The Hokies have hit 29 batters in 16 games this season.
- Nice job by some twit on “SportsCenter” last night referring to Deron Washington as “Darren Washington.“
- So back to NCAA stuff. Palm predicts Tech will face Michigan State in the first round in Tampa, Fla. Palm predicts Cornell will also be there to play Notre Dame. This will come as good news to one of Cornell’s most famous alums, Andy Bernard ...
