The Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball team completed a milestone 2008-09 season in late March. But the Rams are still collecting 2008-09 victories. VCU was announced earlier this month as the Colonial Athletic Association winner in the NCAA’s “Pack the House” Challenge, a national season-long promotion created to enhance home-game attendance. The NCAA invited each school in Division I to designate one women’s basketball regular-season home game as its “Pack the House” game for 2008-09

VCU attracted 2,437 fans, the largest turnout for a women’s home game in Siegel Center history, to its Feb. 1 home date with Old Dominion. Those who attended were handsomely rewarded. The Rams (26-7) defeated ODU for the first time in six years, 58-51. VCU went on to assemble a 16-0 home record and earn its first NCAA tournament bid.

Said Cunningham: “It was a special year and one we look forward to continuing to build on” in 2009-10.
