Here’s one man’s votes for the Colonial Athletic Associations awards (in order of voting):
First team
Eric Maynor, player of the year (no need to defend that), Will Thomas, Antoine Agudio, Jamal Shuler, T.J. Carter
Second team
Gerald Lee, Folarin Campbell, Matt Janning, Frank Elegar, Leonard Mendez
Third team
Abdulai Jalloh, Herb Courtney, Junior Hairston, Vlad Kuljanin, Laimis Kisielius
Rookie team
Charles Jenkins, rookie of the year, Chaisson Allen, Alphonso Dawson, Chad Tomko, Larry Sanders
Defensive team
Jamal Shuler, defensive player of year, Brandon Johnson, Will Thomas, John Vaughan, Larry Sanders
Coach of the year
Anthony Grant, VCU. Yes, he had Eric Maynor and four other returning players and was expected to be one of the top two teams. He also lost two 1,000-point scorers in B.A. Walker and Jesse Pellot-Rosa, had to do without Wil Fameni (knee) for most of the conference season and was mixing in seven players who had never played in college. VCU repeated as league champ by three games. Nobody expected that. Awards generally go to coaches whose teams are a surprise or improve the most. In this case, it should go to someone whose team was expected to do well—and surpassed that.
Tip of the hat to UNCW’s Benny Moss and William and Mary’s Tony Shaver.

I agree totally with your COY award. Props go to Moss and Shaver, as you mentioned. I think some of the northern teams need to pick it up next year, Deleware, Northeastern, Hofstra, and Drexel. They have some tradition and need to get back to that. Have you noticed what Everhart has accomplished at Dairy Queen, um, I mean Duquesne? That’s good stuff. I was surprised to see him leave NE to go there, but he does have that program competing, and quickly!
