The Sporting News released its ranking of the top 100 recruits for the class of 2010. Three Virginians made the list:
16. Zack McCray, DE / TE, 6-4/235, Brookville (Lynchburg)
24. Phillip Sims, QB, 6-2/215, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake)
66. Aramide Olaniyan DL, 6-2/195, Woodberry Forest (near Lynchburg)
Sims committed to Alabama and Olaniyan committed to Duke, leaving McCray as the only recruit left uncommitted in the top 100. He has offers from Boston College, Duke, LSU, Maryland, UNC, N.C. State, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia. Alabama and Nebraska added themselves to the list this week. His teammate from 2009, Logan Thomas committed to Virginia Tech. He was considered by many the top tight end in the country.
For some perspective on these rankings, consider the following:
Rivals ranks Sims at No. 58 and McCray at No. 95. Olaniyan didn’t make the list.
Scout ranks Sims at No. 29, McCray at No. 50 and Olaniyan at No. 132.
