An interesting press conference today, as Zorn sighed several times while reviewing his offensive stats from the past weeks. Among the tidbits was that only two other teams, the Bengals and Lions, haven’t put up 30 points in a game this season. Zorn said the answer is certainly not in benching quarterback Jason Campbell, but might be in simplifying things.
“He’s not totally failing,“ Zorn said. “I’m putting him in some advanced situations really because of what we’re talking about here. There is that balance there, and I probably have tipped the scales. Those are things you find out as you go along. I’m trying to push him, and maybe I take a step back.“
And of course here’s the Redskins injury report, straight from Zorn:
“Andre Carter actually came out of the game pretty good. He’s got a sore foot, but it didn’t get any worse. London Fletcher is the same but he still has the same swelling he had last week. We’ve got him in a boot to isolate it, then we’ll get him ready for next Sunday.
“Clinton has a real stiff neck. He got popped in the side of the head. I haven’t talked to him yet this morning, but he’s real sore.
“Cornelius Griffin came out of it OK. Chris Samuels - his knee got worse and worse as the game went on, but he hung in there and did a pretty good job.
“Shawn Springs has a little strain again in that calf. He kind of reinjured it. That will be a daily thing. Marcus Washington’s ankle is coming along but he probably won’t be out there this week. Kedric Golston might be able to go this week.
“Jason Campbell had a fingernail nearly get knocked off his finger on his throwing hand, but that’s just about it.
“Tomorrow will be a real sore day for all these days. I always say that Tuesday is the worst day, then by Wednesday they’ve got to start making back it a little bit.“
Zorn added that he feels the Redskins have an urgent need to improve the pass game.
“We haven’t reached that elite status of a team,“ he said. “It doesn’t mean we’re not good. It just means we’re one of those teams that didn’t separate. I think we’re battling. We haven’t lost heart. We haven’t lost hope of putting a good game together, and it really has been on the offensive passing game side.“

Defensive coordinator Greg Blache and head coach Jim Zorn both brought up the same point after the game - they felt like the team wasn’t playing with urgency, or somehow didn’t understand what was at stake during the game. Blache added that it means the Redskins are now dependent on other teams losing if they want to make the playoffs.
“We don’t want to rely on other people. That’s a welfare mentality,“ he said during the Comcast postgame show. “We want to define and cut our own road and our own position. I’m a little miffed we let this opportunity slide by.“
The defense’s plan was to make Eli Manning beat them, though Blache added that “we didn’t have to make it that easy for him.“ They were effective at shutting down the run early, but Manning had enough in his repertoire to beat them.
Blache added that he isn’t concerned about the Redskins’ 3-4 home record. “A win is a win, a loss is a loss,“ he said. “If you lose, you lose. I don’t care if it’s in Mexico, Czechoslovakia, wherever.“

The Redskins now share one thing in common with my fantasy team - they’re eighth-best and only six teams make the playoffs.
Unlike the exciting world of fake football, though, the Redskins have four games left, starting Sunday night in Baltimore. They’re trailing Carolina, Dallas, and Atlanta. The Panthers are 9-3, the Cowboys and Falcons are 8-4, the Redskins are 7-5. Any of these teams could still make the playoffs, although it’s tough to imagine any of them beating the Giants, who looked spectacular yesterday.
That sets the stage for a must-win game against the Ravens. We’ll have full coverage all week, starting with coach Jim Zorn’s press conference at 12:25 p.m. today. Video and a wrap-up will both be right here on this blog. Also check out the story from today’s game, as well as a Paul Woody column, right here.

A memorial to Sean Taylor that has been set up outside FedEx Field (Between gates A and H) will remain open through Sunday’s game. Fans are advised to be in their seats by 12:30 p.m. for the Ring of Honor ceremony, which will also be broadcast on Redskins.com for those who can’t attend the game.
And a reminder that, as always, we will have live updates throughout the game at TimesDispatch.com.

Linebacker London Fletcher has started 130 consecutive games, the sixth-longest streak among active players. He’s questionable for this weekend with a foot injury, and didn’t participate in any of the team’s practices this week.
Other defensive injuries of note as we countdown to kickoff (1 p.m. Sunday, FOX):
—Linebacker Marcus Washington is out with an ankle injury.
—Defensive end Andre Carter is questionable with a foot injury.
—Defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin is questionable with a shoulder injury.
—Defensive tackle Kedrick Golston is questionable with an ankle injury.
Guard Anthony Montgomery (achilles) is probable, and offensive linemen Chris Samuels (knee) and Pete Kendall (knee) were also reported with injuries.
Running back Clinton Portis is officially questionable, but nobody believes he would sit out Sunday’s game.
UPDATE: Giants receiver Plaxico Burress will not play with a hamstring injury.
